Satchel really enjoys her bath time. We have this great little tub that fits right into the kitchen sink.

Afternoon on the Boulevard
Today was the first beautiful (though chilly for August) day after a string of rainy days. So, since I can't yet make the trek to the park down the street, Matt and I took a blanket outside and spent the afternoon sitting on the boulevard in front of the house (kind of like a park). Satchel slept, we read and slept a bit, too. Check out the cute bonnet from Great Aunt Barb and Great Grandma. Also check out the book Matt's reading.
Visit from Aunt Michelle and Uncle Jeff
Matt's sister, Michelle, and her husband, Jeff, visited yesterday and Satchel slept pretty much the entire time - through getting passed around to be held, through the car ride to the cafe, at the cafe, through the car ride home, and continued to sleep when we got back. Sorry Michelle and Jeff. Maybe next visit you'll see her eyes!

One Month Old Yesterday!
Satchel on her play mat alternately gazing and swatting at the animals
It's so hard to believe how time has flown and that Satchel is one month old. For Matt and I, it feels as if the time has slipped through our fingers. I began this blog thinking I would begin posting right away after the birth. But, the turn of events that has been our birth story has hindered that plan a bit. So, I'll try to do a bit of a review of the last month to catch everyone up.

I went into the hospital for an induced labor on Tuesday, July 21st after it was discovered that the amniotic fluid was becoming depleted. I labored that evening and the next day until 4pm when Satchel started having decelerations in her heart rate and the decision was made to do an emergency cesarean section. Satchel was born at 4:30pm on July 22nd. It was amazing how quickly the c-section can be done once a decision is made that it's necessary. Following the c-section, we were home for a week and I developed what turned out to be a bowel obstruction that then perforated. I had emergency surgery to resect a portion of my small intestine and then spent some of the hardest three weeks of my life in the hospital recuperating. Not exactly the birth story we had planned on, but we have learned through this tough time how fortunate we are to have such fantastic, loving, and supportive family and friends. We couldn't have made it without you!
